  • Does it matter what instrument I teach?

    Absolutely not. All instruments, voice, and music tutors welcome.

  • Do I need a teaching credential, certification, or a music degree to teach?

    While all of the above are essential to your own musical training, you don't need any of those to get started teaching music instrumental lessons to beginners.

  • How much does it cost to start a music teaching business?

    Unlike most businesses, the start up costs are low to zero assuming you have a piano or are willing to drive to students' homes. Getting starting does not take a major investment, but you will want to invest back into your business as you gain experience and establish your business.

  • How long will this micro-course take? What will I accomplish?

    This is designed to be a 1-day course that you can watch, listen to, and/or read. You will have access to all lessons right away, but you will receive the BONUS Bundle on Day 10. You will leave this course with a strong Studio Policy which is the foundational document to your business. It's not only a contract between you and clients, but also functions as a business plan because it forces you to go through the exercise of how to create an engaging learning space while making sure you are being compensated fairly with a regular (and increasing) salary.

  • Will this course help me write a Studio Policy for music lessons online?

    No, this course is more focused on building a face-to-face music teaching studio that is part of your home (home studio), teaching at the student's home, renting teaching space at a music school, or starting a brick and mortar teaching studio. Online teaching is addressed, however, and online lessons are highly recommended for make up lessons, students that are sick, or whenever it's not possible to meet in person. I recommend that music teachers have at least a minimal set up for online teaching, but this course does not go into depth on the tech details of how to set up an online music teaching studio.

  • Can somebody look at my Studio Policy once I'm done writing it?

    Yes! We have an active community, "Expansive Music Training & Teaching" where you can post questions, comments, and your Studio Policy. There are folks that have written theirs and can give you feedback because we all help each other.

  • Should I write the Studio Policy before or after I get my first student? And how to do I get my first student?

    Ideally, begin thinking about and write a basic Studio Policy BEFORE you start teaching. You need the Studio Policy to hand off to potential clients. But, even if you've started teaching, you can write this document or refine your document to give to your existing students. This course doesn't go into student recruitment, but "Start Your Own Piano Teaching Studio Today" does. If you want to deep dive into more parts of growing your music teaching business, enroll in that course.
